12-year-old girl forced to jump from 100ft ride after seatbelt malfunction

A 12-year-old girl was forced to jump from off Australia's 'tallest travelling freefall ride', while it was moving, in a real horror incident.

Holly Brown, and her friend Ava, visited Queensland's Kilcoy Show on Saturday 13 May, in what was supposed to be a rather fun day out for the pals.

But their day out quickly turned into a horror show, as they sat down to go on the Mega Drop ride.

According to Holly, the ride attendant was quick to see the difficulties the girls had got into, and tried his best to grab onto the rising platform and help secure the safety restraints.

But the 12-year-old told 9News the attendant slipped and fell three metres, so the only thing he could really do was encourage the girls to jump off.

"So I was like, 'You know what, breaking bones is better than losing my life.' So I jumped."

Holly suffered a lateral malleolus fracture in her right foot, with an investigation launched by Queensland Workplace Health and Safety.
