'Relax Nigerians' - Okonjo-Oweala react to attacks for cropping Tinubu from Paris photograph

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director General of the World Trade Organisation, WTO, on Saturday reacted to the criticisms from Nigerians over the photographs he took in Paris, France.

Okonjo-Oweala had posted a photograph of him in which President Bola Tinubu was cropped out.

The WTO DG had taken the photograph during the summit for 'A New Global Financing Pact' convened by the French President, Emmanuel Macron.

The summit afforded Tinubu the opportunity of projecting, on a global stage, his advocacy for widening the fiscal space, economic justice for Africa as the world accelerates the pace of energy transition, and the urgency of addressing the pressing issues of poverty and climate change.

The photograph had generated so much controversy among Nigerians.

Reacting to the controversy generated, Okonjo-Oweala urged Nigerians to relax.

Tweeting, the former Finance minister said the controversy has exposed how polarised Nigeria has become.

According to Okonjo-Iweala: Nigerians, please relax! Re Paris, Interesting attacks from both sides. This sadly shows the depth of polarization in our society.

"I post photos in the order received by accompanying staff or colleagues. Reading more into it is unwarranted. Let's unite to build our country, not attack.

You should be in rehab - Uchenna Nnanna berates Blessing CEO over side chick remark

Nollywood actress, Uchenna Nnanna has berated popular self acclaimed relationship expert, Blessing Okoro, known as Blessing CEO, for her views on having side chicks in marriages.

Recall that Blessing CEO in a trending video on social media, stated that side chicks are important to sustain marriages.

She said:

"Without side chicks, a lot of marriages will be broken today. That is one reality that we would face because a lot of these married women cannot satisfy their husbands. It might not even be sexually.

"Men are adventurous in nature. Sometimes, a woman is pregnant, a lot of things are happening to her. She is not in the mood, she's busy. And the side chick out there does the work. If there's no side chick to play that role, men will walk away from marriage."

Reacting to the viral clip on Instagram, actress Uchenna Nnanna, who seemed displeased with the statement, blamed the media for interviewing someone who should be in the rehabilitation center.

Nnanna said:

"I blamed the media for interviewing someone who should be in a rehab home. Common sense is not common."

Six police officers face trial for death of Nigerian man in Switzerland

Six police officers face trial for death of Nigerian man in Switzerland

Six police officers face homicide charges in a Swiss court case that opens on Monday, June 12, 2023, following the 2018 death of a Nigerian man from a heart attack after he was pinned, face-down, for several minutes during arrest.

The officers, whom Reuters did not name due to Swiss privacy laws, face charges of "homicide by neglect" in the case of 39-year-old Mike Ben Peter Amadasun, before a Lausanne criminal court.

They all contest the charges and will seek acquittal, their lawyers said.

The case, which has some similarities with the May 2020 killing of George Floyd in the United States, is one of four where Black men have died during police interventions in Vaud canton since 2016. They have sparked protests and calls for reforms.

But unlike Floyd's killing, for which officer Derek Chauvin was convicted of murder in 2021 partly based on cellphone footage showing him kneeling on the victim's neck, there is no footage of the incident that allegedly contributed to Ben Peter's death.

Simon Ntah, the lawyer for the family, said he was not hopeful for a ruling against the officers who face a maximum prison sentence of three years.

"As long as there isn't a mechanism for independent investigations against the police we are stuck with the same problems," he told Reuters, complaining how the same public prosecutor who works with police on other criminal cases is placed in charge of cases like this one.

The indictment showed that Ben Peter drew the attention of officers during a Lausanne drug patrol after he collected a bag later shown to contain marijuana.

He did not comply with police requests and the officers used pepper spray and knee kicks to the ribs and crotch to handcuff him on the ground, it showed. He continued to struggle as he was held face-down by several officers for 3 minutes, it said, until they noticed he appeared unconscious.

Ben Peter was later pronounced dead after a heart attack with multiple causes, the indictment said, including the fact that he was held on his stomach and subjected to stress but also his obesity.

While recounting the advice Olu Jacobs gave her. Kate Henshaw said;

"I remember Uncle Olu Jacobs saying to me, "Be willing to learn and to better yourself". See what is being done out there-the practices. I've done stage, TV, and film. I watch other actors in Hollywood and Bollywood. I want to see how they're doing it. I love Viola Davis so much. I love her."

"She's someone I love. Lately, JLo, I am seeing her comic side. She is a strong woman. I love Tracee Ellis Ross, and I love Charlize Theron. She's got a long, lean look. I love it. There are so many of them that I really like. Top of my list is Angela Bassett at 60-something. You see, we are following her.

You know, these are people who have been in the game. They're still there. There's something they're doing right. They're conscientious about their work. They don't mess around with their job. They don't feel as if they have a right that everybody should kowtow and bow to them. No. Have a teachable spirit. Being able to learn, is for me, the best thing ever.."

Why Apostle Chibuzor stopped sponsoring Happie Boys" - Media personality, Lucky Udu reveals

'Why Apostle Chibuzor stopped sponsoring Happie Boys

Media personality, Lucky Udu, has revealed why Nigerian clergyman and philanthropist Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere stopped sponsoring the education of the former viral security guards, Happie Boys, leading them to drop out of school.

Recall that after the young men went viral last year, Apostle Chibuzor offered them a fully funded scholarship to further their education in Cyprus.

'Why Apostle Chibuzor stopped sponsoring Happie Boys' - Media personality, Lucky Udu reveals

However, a few days ago, the boys dropped a bombshell, announcing that they had dropped out of school due to lack of sponsorship. This revelation left many wondering what had happened between them and their benefactor.

Lucky, who claimed to have spoken to the clergyman regarding the issue, has now shed light on the matter. He explained that due to the significant increase in the dollar exchange rate, Apostle Chibuzor could no longer afford to continue paying their fees in Cyprus.

As a solution, he suggested that they return to Nigeria, Ghana, or Benin Republic to continue their studies, but they refused.

"I just spoke to the OPM pastor and he said that when dollar went up, things became difficult and he couldn't sustain them, he adviced them to return to a Nigerian university or he sends them to Ghana or benin republic to continue their education. The burden became too much to bear but they didn't understand nor listen.

"That man has too many responsibilities. Over 4000 students abroad. He send the children to school and then, the parents cater for their children. Unfortunately, not everyone can cope with such opportunities. Some will spend all their opportunities thinking the man will provide everything for them.

If their family can squeeze out something to sustain them, let them do so. I'm not judging those boys o but before the left Nigeria, they were dressing decently but after they left for Cyprus, they started dressing indecently and expensive when they fully know that they have no kobo compared to what the man of God can assist with. I feel for them sha." Lucky shared.

Life is a competition; there's nothing wrong with what she's doing" - Maraji backs Ekiti chef Dammy (Video)

'Life is a competition; there's nothing wrong with what she's doing

Nigerian comedienne Gloria Oloruntobi, popularly known as Maraji, has opined that there is nothing wrong with Ekiti chef Dammy's attempt to break Hilda Baci's new record.

An undergraduate from Ekiti state, identified as Damilola Adeparusi, better known as Chef Dammy, recently completed a 120-hour cook-a-thon in an effort to surpass Hilda Baci's record for the longest cooking time by an individual.

However, the attempt has received mixed reactions, with the majority criticizing her for not waiting for some time before attempting to break Hilda's record. The Guinness World Record confirmed Hilda as the record holder for the longest cooking time by an individual on Tuesday, June 13.

In a video shared on social media, Maraji addressed the criticism and defended Chef Dammy's attempt, stating that there is nothing wrong with it as life itself is a competition.

She pointed out that in various creative fields, such as music and comedy, individuals do not wait for others to achieve success before pursuing their own dreams.

Maraji countered the critics who suggested that Chef Dammy should have collaborated with brands or followed specific protocols like Hilda Baci did. She argued that such expectations were unfounded and expressed disappointment that the majority of critics were women.

She also cited examples of people from the same country who have broken records within 24 hours after they were set, emphasizing that the pursuit of records is a common practice.

CBN grants banks freedom to trade forex at any rate

CBN grants banks freedom to trade forex at any rate

The Central Bank of Nigeria has authorised commercial banks to freely trade foreign exchange at any rate.

The authorisation means that banks now have the power to sell forex at a market-determined rate.

We gathered that some banks have pegged the USD to Naira rate at N699 to N750, suggesting that Nigeria is now operating a freely floating exchange rate in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's pledge to unify the rate.

Reacting to the development in an Arise Television interview on Wednesday, Dr. Andrew Nevin, the Advisory Partner & Chief Economist of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), said the unification of foreign exchange rates will impact the country dramatically by boosting investment opportunities in Nigeria.

"What has been happening is that CBN is taking dollars from the Federation's account and giving to privileged individuals at N411 to US dollar while the real price is N700 to N750 to the Dollar, we don't really know because they've removed price transparency.

"What happens is that the state government cannot pay their pensioners. That fundamental issue will be addressed by the development. Now the state government will get full value for its dollar.

"It will have a dramatic impact on the fiscal structure of the country when we stop giving the dollar to privileged individuals. We get better investment, more fair use of the country's resources and improved business environment, this will strengthen Nigeria's currency", he stated.

For years, Nigeria has maintained a tightly controlled official exchange rate as the country's forex reserves hit new lows. While the CBN maintained an artificial rate of $1/N462
